I was so excited that there was going to be a big Litchenstein exhibition in London, as he is one of my favourite artists. I love his best work, which freezes a single crucial moment in time, especially the dynamic ‘I don’t care, I’d rather sink than call Brad for help!’.
But I do think he was rather a prisoner of his own methodology by the end. Although he did some super landscapes which work well with his dot/dotless style, on some of the latest ones you wish he’d try a different method! I like his sculptures, which seem to be parts of the crowd control mechanisms at the Empire State Building, though!
